Iranian researchers design nano-mask attracting microbial, chemical pollutants

5-305Iranian researchers at Islamic Azad University in Tehran have designed filters covered with carbon and silver nanoparticles, attracting chemical pollutants and bacteria carrying communicable diseases.

The results of this study can be used in medical and industrial sectors as well as efficient filters in auto-making, steel, cement, oil, gas and petrochemistry.

Air pollution in industrial center and cities is one of the main problems in the world today which leads to respiratory diseases.

The designed filter was first developed by means of polypropylene fiber and through layer needle-injecting method.

The silver nanoparticles used in the filer will collide with bacteria passing the filter and deactivate it. Moreover, the condition of the filter surface bans growth of bacteria.

The results of the study have been published in Journal of Industrial Textiles.
