VIDEO: Hezbollah’s Legendary 2006 Operation Truthful Promise

Al-Manar re-publishes on the 15th anniversary, videos of the operation which was aimed at holding a swap deal with the occupation regime in order to free veteran Lebanese prisoner Samir Al-Kontar, who had been since 1979 in Israeli jails.

The operation was planned and overseen by senior commander Hajj Imad Mughniyeh, who was martyred in an Israeli strike on Syria’s Damascus in 2008.

The Israeli occupation took the “Operation Truthful Promise” as a pretext to carry out a brutal aggression on Lebanon that lasted for 33 days and killed more than 1000 Lebanese civilians.

Hezbollah fighters heroically confronted the Israelis aggression, with epic battles taking place in the Lebanese border towns, where occupation forces tried to launch a ground operation.

Two years after the war (in July 2008), a swap deal was held following indirect talks, in which Al-Kontar and four other Lebanese prisoners were released.
