Armed Israelis intrude into WB mosque

Israeli guards have intruded into a mosque in the occupied Palestinian territories, triggering clashes between Palestinians and Israeli settlers and police.

The confrontation ensued the settler guards’ breaking into the mosque in the Silwan neighborhood of East al-Quds (Jerusalem) in the occupied West Bank on Thursday, witnesses were quoted by Euronews as saying.

The police, however, claim that the Palestinians pelted stones and Molotov cocktails at their men who were trying to disperse the demonstrators.

Cars were set ablaze during the confrontations which reportedly caused no injuries.

The police last month cracked down on the protestors who had objected to Tel Aviv’s plans to raze 22 Arab-residing homes in the crowded Arab neighborhood to build a so-called archeological park.

Israel captured East al-Quds in the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed it in a move not recognized by the international community.

Tel Aviv has also been dimming the prospects of peace ever since by building settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
