War on Syria, western attempt to recolonize Arab World

Israel has deployed missiles in the Haifa area near the Syrian border. On Sunday, an Israeli Army spokesman confirmed reports that two “Iron Dome” missile batteries were moved to the Haifa area. The deployment came after NATO’s first Patriot missile batteries on the Turkish border with Syria became operational on Saturday. Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Damascus government says outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorists are the driving factor behind the unrest and deadly violence.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Dr. Kevin Barrett, an author & Middle East expert (Madison), to further discuss the issue of war on Syria. What follows is an approximate transcription of the interview with Kevin Barrett.

Press TV: Mr. Barrett, now looking at the situation with regards to Syria, there used to be a time when we would see the Arab world unite against policies of Israel within the region and right now it is sort of a different scenario, a different political landscape where we are seeing many Arab countries align their policies with that of Israel with regards to Syria.

What do you make of it?

Barrett: Well, there is a full-scale attempt going on to recolonize the Arab world which did escape partially from colonialism during the second half of the twentieth century.

Today I think in the wake of 9/11 which as I like to point out, was a joint US-Israeli false flag operation, that operation was designed -I believe- to launch the recolonization of the Middle East.

It is very interesting indeed that just a month before 9/11 in August of 2001, the king of Saudi Arabia announced that there had come a time for the parting of the ways, that Saudi Arabia would be leaving the American imperial orbit. And 9/11 was designed to make sure that nothing like that ever happened and there has been a full-scale attempt to destabilize all of the Arab countries that are less than complete US clients and Syria is one of them.

So I think when we hear Israel which is as least as responsible as any American policymakers for destabilization of the Middle East and destabilization of Syria say that they will protect the Syrian people by firing missiles into Syria to try to warn the government not to use chemical weapons, this is just bizarre.

Israel has no interest in protecting civilians. Israel has been massacring civilians all over the Arab world, practically ever since it began as the leading terrorist nation in the world at least per capita population.

So the situation is completely different from everything we are reading in the corporate controlled mainstream media and I am glad that Press TV is there to offer different perspectives.

Press TV: Right, now speaking of which as Israel places two of its Iron Dome missile batteries near the border with Syria, what does it do to change the dynamics on the ground when we saw the Patriot missile batteries being deployed on Turkish soil that by itself was very provocative and was a step above just a proxy war on Syrian soil. Where does this lead now?

Barrett: Well, it appears to be a case of brinkmanship. It is widely rumored in military circles that Syria has an advanced air defense system that it has obtained from Russia. And that is one of the reasons why the west has been unable to try to declare a no-fly zone which actually means just taking over Syria’s airspace and bombing them and murdering them.

So apparently these missiles that are being brought up to the Syrian border in Turkey and Israel are part of an effort to pressure Syria and Russia. I do not think it will work.

The Syrian government currently is withstanding the assault it has received first from peaceful protesting citizens and then from terrorists including a lot of US and Israeli-supported Saudi Wahabi extremists who are not very popular in Syria and the momentum seems to be shifting in favor of the Syrian government.

So perhaps these missiles are an attempt to increase the leverage of the colonizing powers.
