Syria militants kill four near Damascus

Four people have been killed and a dozen others injured in a mortar attack by a group of militants on a residential area near the Syrian capital, Damascus.

Three mortar shells slammed into a bus station in the al-Nasem neighborhood of Jaramana city, located about 10 kilometers (six miles) southeast of Damascus, on Sunday, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported.

Two of the projectiles fell on a bus parked in front of the station, causing the casualties. The force of the explosion also damaged several cars nearby.

Over the past few weeks, the foreign-backed militants holed up in the Damascus suburbs have carried out numerous mortar attacks on the outskirts of the capital.

Meanwhile, the Syrian army troops continue mop-up operations against militants in the suburbs.

The crisis in Syria began over two years ago, and many people, including large numbers of soldiers and security forces, have been killed in the violence.

The militants killed two people and injured nearly 20 others in a car bombing in the northwestern city of Aleppo on Sunday.

On April 8, over a dozen people were killed in a similar attack carried out in central Damascus.

Several international human rights organizations have accused the foreign-sponsored militants of committing war crimes in Syria.

In an interview recently broadcast on Turkish television, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said if the “unrest in Syria leads to the partitioning of the country, or if the terrorist forces take control… the situation will inevitably spill over into neighboring countries and create a domino effect throughout the Middle East and beyond.”
