Last week, the Syrian Arab Army’s elite special operations division that is known as the “Tiger Forces” had surprised the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) by capturing three strategic sites near the Kuweries Military Airport, which further added to their overall progress in the Aleppo Governorate’s eastern countryside.

The Tiger Forces – in coordination with Hezbollah, Harakat Al-Nujaba, and the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Al-Salamiyah and Aleppo City – seized the villages of Shuwaylekh and Nasrallah, along with the imperative Rasm Al-‘Abid Production Facility; this ultimately paved the way for the pro-government forces to advance to Humaymah Al-Kabeera and Tal Al-‘Abyad.

This week, the Tiger Forces and their allies have intensified their assault on eastern Aleppo, striking ISIS at several villages near the Kuweires Military Airport, including Tal Al-Ahmar and Humaymah Al-Kabeera.

On Thursday morning, the Tiger Forces and their allies were able to break-through ISIS’ frontline defenses at the farms situated to the south of the Rasm Al-‘Abid Production Facility, resulting in the pro-government forces finally reaching the small hills that border Tal Al-Ahmar.

Should the Syrian Armed Forces capture Tal Al-Ahmar and Humaymah Al-Kabeera, they will have effectively built a large buffer-zone around the Kuweries Military Airport, while also advancing their positions around the ISIS stronghold of Deir Hafer.
