Who is hacking people to death in DR Congo?

Scores of people are being mercilessly hacked to death in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but the Congolese government and the United Nations monitoring forces have so far failed to take action. 

The government and the UN have failed to even fully identify the enemy responsible. As the death toll mounts, villages have been abandoned with families fleeing with everything they own in an attempt to avoid being killed. Why isn’t this unfolding tragedy front-page news? The expected international outrage at the senseless acts of violence has been conspicuous by its absence. Just what is the story behind one of the region’s most under-reported atrocities?

The eyewitness accounts are harrowing – disemboweled women, mutilated children and people with their hands tied to their backs and their throats slit. In Beni alone, since October 2014, 600 people have died a horrific fashion. Both the Congolese government and the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have long blamed the Ugandan militant group, the Allied Democratic Forces, for these mass killings.
