Yemenis demand trail of corrupt officials

Yemeni revolutionaries have taken to the streets in several cities across the country to call for the prosecution of all “corrupt” government officials, Press TV reports.

Revolutionaries held demonstrations in the capital Sana’a, the southern city of Taizz and several other towns on Sunday.

Demonstrators also called for the execution of Yemeni dictator Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Yemeni anti-regime demonstrators hold Saleh responsible for the killing of hundreds of protesters during the popular uprising that began in late January 2011.

On January 9, 2012, Yemen’s interim government approved a draft law that will grant Saleh immunity from prosecution as part of a power transfer deal brokered by the (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council.

The United States has defended the bill, which still needs to be approved by the Yemeni parliament.

Human Rights Watch have criticized the bill and said that passing it would be “an affront to thousands of victims of Saleh’s repressive rule, including the relatives of peaceful protesters shot dead last year.”

In a separate development on Friday, Yemeni security forces killed four people and injured 10 others in the southern port city of Aden during a demonstration calling for the separation of the south.
