Syria in Last 24 Hours: Army Foils Terrorists’ Plan to Attack Gov’t Positions in Damascus

The Syrian army troops foiled an attempt by Ahrar al-Sham terrorists to attack the government forces’ positions in the Eastern parts of Damascus on Monday.

Damascus

The Syrian Army troops launched a pre-emptive strike on the positions of Ahrar al-Sham on Monday and foiled their plan to storm the government forces’ strongholds in Eastern Ghouta.

The army men engaged in fierce clashes with Ahrar al-Sham in a governmental building at the Vehicles Management Center near the town of Harasta and its outskirts, adding that the army attack was in time and foiled terrorists’ plan to launch an offensive on government forces’ positions.

The Ahrar sniper opened heavy fire at the Vehicles Management Center to pave the ground for attacking the center, but their attempts were foiled by the army’s pre-emptive move.

In the meantime, the army’s missile and artillery units pounded heavily the battlefield, killing a number of militants near Harasta.

Militant-affiliated news websites quoted a commander of Al-Nusra Front (Tahrir al-Sham Hay’at or the Levant Liberation Board) as saying on Sunday that his forces would not leave Eastern Ghouta for Idlib until the fate of the group’s captured members was clarified by the Jeish al-Islam.

The websites said further that a fresh wave of tensions covered the Al-Nusra after the Al-Nusra commanders said that they would not sign the agreement endorsed by Russia and Faylaq al-Rahman for their evacuation from the region.

Hama

The Syrian Army has set up a new unit of ISIL Hunters, elite forces of the army, in Northwestern Hama to join the pro-government forces’ operation against terrorists in the province, well-informed sources said on Monday.

The sources said that the army managed to establish a new unit of ISIL Hunters in the town of al-Saqilebiyeh in Northwestern Hama after the ISIL Hunters attained significant achievements in war on terrorism in the country.

The sources further said that al-Saqilebiyeh is home to one of the largest units of the National Defense Forces (NDF).

Idlib

The Russian Air Force continued to hit Southern Idlib, striking several regions under the control of Al-Nusra Front.

Russian jets flying out of the Humeimim Airport in Jableh began the day by relentlessly bombing the Al-Nusra positions in the town of Abu Dali in Southern Idlib, the AMN reported.

Following the airstrikes on Abu Dali, the Russians targeted several other areas controlled by the Al-Nusra, including the towns of Mosheirefeh, al-Latamina, Al-Rahjan and Kafr Zita.

The Russian airstrikes came just hours after the Syrian Army launched more than 100 surface-to-surface missiles towards terrorists’ positions in Northern Hama.

Aleppo

Local sources in Northwestern Aleppo reported on Monday that the Al-Nusra Front and its rival Nouralddeen al-Zinki terrorist group have started arresting each others’ members again amid continued infighting.

The sources reported that militants of Nouralddeen al-Zinki have captured a number of Al-Nusra members in Northwestern Aleppo as they were returning from their positions in the town of Anadan and Hayan in Northern Aleppo.

They added that Al-Nusra terrorists, meantime, captured a number of al-Zinki fighters in Jam’iyat al-Rahal region near the town of Kafr Naha in Western Aleppo.
