Army Surrounds Ithna & Beit Ummar Towns Near Al Khalil

Israeli soldiers placed a full siege on the town of Ithna, west of the southern West Bank city of Al Khalil, and initiated a large-scale search campaign that targeted dozens of homes and stores in the town, since Monday evening.

The invasion started after an Israeli settler was shot and killed, and three others were injured, apparently by Palestinian fire.

Local sources said that dozens of soldiers invaded the town, and started breaking into homes, stores and various buildings, and interrogated dozens of Palestinians. No arrests were reported until the time of this report.

Ma’an said that the town is completely surrounded after the army closed all roads leading to it, including smaller side roads.

The army also surrounded Tarqoumia town, close to where the initial shooting took place, and installed various roadblocks.

The soldiers installed roadblocks at the northern entrances of Al Khalil city, also stopped and searched dozens of cars while inspecting the ID cards of the passengers, and interrogating them.

In the same context, Israeli forces closed down the village of Beit Ummar, north of Al Khalil, erecting several flying checkpoints around it.

Spokesman for the local resistance committee Mohammad Ayyad Awad said that dozens of Israeli soldiers and vehicles were deployed at the entrances of the village, and were searching passersby.

Awad said that Israeli forces raided the house of Ahmad Younis Abu Ayyash and turned it into a military barracks.
