Bahraini people have once again taken to the streets to voice their opposition to the continued detention of the country’s main opposition leader Sheikh Ali Salman.

On Thursday, Bahraini people protested the detention of Salman in al-Musalla area in the capital, Manama, and the northeastern island of Sitra as well as Bilad al-Qadim and Bani Jamreh areas.

Chanting anti-regime slogans, the demonstrators demanded the immediate release of Salman, who is the secretary general of Bahrain’s main opposition bloc, the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, and other political prisoners.

Salman was detained last December on charges including seeking regime change and collaborating with foreign powers.

He has repeatedly denied the allegations, saying that he has been seeking reforms through peaceful means.

Salman’s arrest has sparked condemnation inside and outside Bahrain, with leaders, governments and international organizations across the world urging his immediate release.
