Sayyed Ammar al-Hakim: Iraq not afraid to express its friendship with Iran

The president of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq has emphasized that Iraq is not afraid to express its friendship and relationship with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, Hujjat al-Islam Sayyed Ammar al-Hakim, in a meeting with a group of Iraqi media activists said those individuals who oppose Iraq’s national reconciliation project, have based their lives upon creating divisiveness among the Iraqi people.

His Eminence emphasized the need to pass a law banning religious sedition and ethnic incitement and added that the media should always publicize the recommendations of the sources of emulation because these recommendations document the history of mankind.

Hujjat al-Islam al-Hakim referred to the ongoing battle in Iraq’s northern Salahuddin province which aims to liberate the province from Takfiri terrorists, and pointed out that the operation is under the slogan of “Here I am, Oh Messenger of God!” and aims at restoring the dignity of Iraq.

Iraqi forces, backed by the nation’s Shi’a and Sunni volunteers, continue their push to recapture the city of Tikrit from the ISIL terrorists, who have suffered huge losses and fatalities since the Iraqi operation to retake the key city started on March 2.

The leader of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq emphasized that Iraq’s continued friendship and relationship with Iran and other neighbouring countries is a very important issue. He added that Iraq is not afraid or ashamed to express its friendly relationship with Iran.

Hujjat al-Islam al-Hakim stated that the media has a great responsibility in light of the current economic and security situation in Iraq and said the media should play an active role in maintaining social solidarity, especially when the Takfiri threat ends.

The renowned Iraqi cleric stressed the importance of differentiating between political and military activities and noted that the sources of emulation always emphasize the that the Shi’ite militia groups should not interfere in political affairs but they must be present on the battlefield and accomplish their duties of jihad. “I ask the media to greater emphasize the sacrifices of the militia groups,” he requested.

Hujjat al-Islam al-Hakim criticized individual enrolment in the militia groups and that the militia groups are a government-based project for the defence of the country.
