Leader of Islamic Ummah praises martyred resistance figures in Nowruz address

On Thursday, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, addressed the nation, marking the commencement of the new Iranian year, 1404.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution commenced his address by outlining the significant events and developments that transpired over the Iranian year 1403.

The Leader lamented the loss of former President Ebrahim Raesi and his associates who perished in a tragic helicopter crash, and recognized the enduring impact of notable resistance figures like former Lebanese Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniah. He emphasized that these losses represent a significant blow to the Iranian people.

In a recent address, Ayatollah Khamenei declared the year 1404 as the “Year of Investments for Production,” emphasizing the critical role that investing in production plays in addressing economic challenges. The Leader highlighted the importance of robust investment strategies in enhancing economic resilience and fostering growth.

Below is the complete transcript of the speech delivered by the Leader, as republished from his official website:

In the Name of God, the Merciful and Compassionate

Changer of hearts and visions,

“The Director of Day and Night”

Changer of events and conditions,

Strive to transform our current situation into one marked by optimal conditions.

This year’s New Year coincides with the sacred nights of Qadr and the commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Ali. In light of this, there is a shared hope that the spiritual blessings of these auspicious nights and the compassionate intercession of Imam Ali will extend to our beloved citizens, our nation, and all those who mark the beginning of the New Year with Nowruz celebrations.

The calendar year 1403 AHS, spanning from March 20, 2024, to March 20, 2025, proved to be a year marked by a succession of significant events, bearing a resemblance to the challenging circumstances of 1981. The Iranian populace faced numerous adversities during this period. The year began on a somber note with the nation mourning the assassination of the esteemed President, Mr. Ebrahim Raisi (may he rest in peace). This tragedy was preceded by the loss of several advisors in Damascus. Subsequently, a series of developments unfolded in Tehran followed by incidents in Lebanon, leading to the loss of prominent figures who were treasured by both the Iranian nation and the broader Islamic community. These incidents were undeniably sorrowful. Additionally, economic difficulties exerted substantial pressure on citizens, particularly intensifying in the latter part of the year, as the challenges of sustaining livelihoods posed significant hardships throughout the year.

In an extraordinary turn of events, the resilience and unity of the Iranian people were vividly demonstrated following the loss of the President. Despite the gravity of the situation, the nation’s collective willpower was evident during the substantial public turnout for the funeral procession, underlined by their spirited slogans and high morale. This tragic event, while significant, failed to diminish their resolve. Additionally, Iran showcased its organizational prowess by swiftly organizing elections within the legal timeframe, appointing a new President, and efficiently reconstituting the government, thereby seamlessly bridging the administrative gap in the country.

These developments hold great significance and reflect the robust morale, capacities, and spiritual resilience of the Iranian people. Gratitude is owed to divine providence for this strength. Furthermore, in light of recent months’ events, where numerous individuals in Lebanon—our brethren in faith and our Lebanese compatriots—encountered challenges, the Iranian populace extended heartfelt support. The substantial outpouring of assistance from the population towards their Lebanese and Palestinian brothers is a remarkable and unforgettable milestone in the nation’s history.

The gold generously donated by Iranian women, alongside the support from the nation’s citizens, marks a significant milestone in demonstrating the country’s collective resilience and determination. This spirit of involvement, readiness, and spiritual fortitude stands as a vital resource for Iran’s future and its continued prosperity. With these assets, it is anticipated that the nation will harness them to their full potential, while seeking continued blessings from the Almighty for its enduring advancement.

Last year, the slogan “Surge in production through people’s participation” was launched, underscoring its critical importance for the nation. However, the developments throughout 1403 AHS hindered the full realization of this objective. Despite strenuous efforts from the government, citizens, the private sector, investors, and entrepreneurs, achievements were notable but did not meet the desired expectations. Consequently, the economy continues to be the primary focus this year. Thus, the emphasis remains on economic issues, with the forthcoming slogan prioritizing investment in the economic sector. The government, officials, and citizens are urged to concentrate their efforts on these crucial economic matters.

A critical issue currently facing the nation’s economy is the need for increased investment in the production sector. A notable upturn in production is observed whenever such investments are realized. Ideally, these investments should originate from the citizens themselves. The government’s role is to devise various strategies to facilitate this process. However, in scenarios where citizens lack either the motivation or the financial capability to invest, the government can assume a pivotal role, not as a competitor to the populace, but as a supplementary force. In circumstances where public involvement is lacking, governmental intervention through investment becomes essential. Regardless, investing in production is crucial not only for bolstering the national economy but also for addressing livelihood issues facing the populace. Enhancing citizens’ standards of living necessitates thorough planning and cannot proceed without these foundational measures.

The government and citizens must jointly commit to fostering and executing investments in production with determination and vigor. The government’s responsibility lies in establishing a conducive environment and eliminating production barriers, whereas the public’s duty is to channel investments—ranging from minor to substantial—into productive ventures. Redirecting capital towards production eliminates its diversion to counterproductive activities such as gold purchases, currency speculation, and similar undertakings. This shift will curb such detrimental practices. The Central Bank has a critical role in this initiative, alongside the potential for the government to implement a variety of impactful strategies. Appropriately aligning with this objective, this year’s declared theme is “Investments for Production,” which is anticipated to enhance citizens’ livelihoods. Collaborative planning by the government, in conjunction with active public engagement, is expected to address these challenges effectively.

Recent developments have drawn international attention as renewed military actions by Israel on Gaza have sparked significant concern. The escalation is being described as a grave atrocity, prompting calls for unity across the global Islamic community to confront the situation collaboratively. Leaders are urging all parties to put aside internal differences to address what is being viewed as a matter of broad significance to the Islamic world. Additionally, advocates for global justice, including those within the United States, Europe, and other regions, are being called upon to denounce the ongoing violence characterized by the loss of innocent lives, destruction of homes, and displacement of civilians. There is a growing demand for concerted efforts worldwide to halt this unfolding humanitarian crisis.

It is widely acknowledged by global political analysts that the United States shares responsibility in this unfolding tragedy, either through direct involvement or by providing tacit approval. The situation in Yemen further underscores this complicity, as assaults on Yemeni civilians constitute a grievous offense demanding immediate cessation. The United States’ role in these developments has been called into question, highlighting the need for urgent intervention to halt these actions.

As the new year commences, there is a collective aspiration for the Islamic Ummah to be graced with prosperity, unity, and success, under the guidance of divine will. It is hoped that the Iranian nation embarks on this year imbued with happiness and cohesion, maintaining this positivity throughout. Moreover, there is a fervent wish that the revered Imam of the Time [Imam Mahdi], along with the esteemed spirit of Imam Khomeini and the honored martyrs, finds satisfaction and contentment in our endeavors.

Wishing you peace, mercy, and blessings from God.
