Iran played down effectiveness of the Saudi-led air attacks to bring the Yemeni nation down to its knees, and said Riyadh’s aggressions deteriorated the already unpopular image of the Saudis among the Yemeni people.

Speaking in an interview with the state tv on Saturday, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani underlined the growing trend of Yemenis’ hatred for the Al Saud regime due to its massive airstrikes against their country in the last two months.

Shamkhani said that apart from a shaky five-day ceasefire, Saudi Arabia’s onslaught on Yemen has now been going on for two months, with this belief that the Ansarullah movement fighters must give up their weapons and return to their former location.

Saudi Arabia has been bombing Yemen in the last 67 days to bring its ally, fugitive president Mansour Hadi, back to power.

The airstrikes have so far claimed the lives of more than 4,132 civilians, mostly women and children.

According to a recent report by Freedom House Foundation, most of the victims of the deadly Al Saud campaign are civilians, including a large number of women and children.

Thousands of residential buildings have been destroyed, and hundreds of civil and public facilities were reduced to rubble as a result of the bombardments by Saudi warplanes on the Yemeni cities and towns, the group said.
