Indian forces continue crackdown on Kashmiri protesters

Zionist Puppet Indian security forces continue to crack down on Kashmiri protesters by imposing curfew through Shopian district of South Kashmir, where five people were killed in clashes with Indian police.

The protest march was called by chairman of Hurriyat Conference Sayed Alishah Geelani to express their outrage over the killings that took place earlier this week.

On September 7, Indian paramilitary troops killed at least five people and wounded a dozen others in Shopian district, located 50 kilometers (30 miles) south of Srinagar, the main city in the Indian-administered Kashmir.

According to Indian security forces, those killed were the militants who had assaulted their camps. However, witnesses and local police denied the claim, saying the victims were all civilians.

Geelani and other independence leaders have repeatedly criticized Indian forces for human rights violations and brutality in Kashmir.

According to the official count, over 47,000 people have been killed during the conflict in the region over past two decades, though other sources say the death toll could be as high as 90,000.

This is while the soaring violence and insecurity in the Muslim-majority region has taken a toll on the revival of the cross border trade between the divided parts of Kashmir, which opened in 2008.

The ongoing clashes between India and Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Indian-administered Kashmir have caused serious setbacks for the tradesmen of both sides.

The tradesmen criticize the Department of Customs for its failure to provide security on the route.

Kashmir lies at the heart of more than 60 years of hostility between India and Pakistan. Both countries claim the region in full but each only has control over a section of the territory.
