The Israeli embassy in India says three Israeli diplomats accused of abusing and wounding an Indian immigration officer at New Delhi airport have been “repatriated to Israel.”

An embassy official made the announcement on Tuesday after Delhi police filed a criminal case against the consular officials following the fight, which broke out between them and the immigration official late Saturday.

“We are taking this incident seriously. The three diplomats who were involved in the incident have been repatriated to Israel,” said Ohad Horsandi, spokesman for the Israeli embassy in New Delhi.

The Israeli diplomats were reportedly angry at delays in clearing immigration for their flight to Kathmandu in Nepal.

“They kept on arguing with the Indian official at the immigration assistance counter. Once their papers were cleared, they verbally abused the official and when he objected, they pounced on him,” said M.I. Haider, the police deputy commissioner in charge of airport security.

He added that CCTV footage of the scuffle would be used to help the case against the Israeli diplomats. Since they enjoy diplomatic immunity, they were not arrested over the incident. However, police lodged a case against them.

Last week, a New York police officer was arrested at the same airport when bullets were discovered in his luggage. He was later freed on bail and is currently waiting for a court date to resolve the case.
