CIA remains at forefront of Syria’s unrest: Hisham Tillawi

A political analyst says the US spy agency CIA was involved in the Syrian crisis from the very beginning of the conflict and will continue to supply ever more weapons to the militants in the country.

The comment comes as the CIA is providing intelligence support to the foreign-backed militants in Syria in an attempt to beef them up against the government of President Bashar al-Assad, a report says.

Citing unnamed and former US officials, The Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday that the CIA has dispatched its officers to Turkey, to help vet the militants who receive arms supplies from Persian Gulf Arab states.

The CIA is also in cahoots with British, French and Jordanian intelligence services to train the militants how to use different types of weaponry, the report said.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Hisham Tillawi with the Current Issues TV and Radio to further discuss the issue. What follows is an approximate transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Hisham Tillawi, not new news about the CIA involvement of course this report didn’t mention Jordan and how CIA is training members of the so called the Free Syrian Army there. How deep of an involvement is the CIA when it comes to the war on Syria?

Tillawi:
This is not something new and I’m shocked that this news is only coming out now because we have known that the CIA is tracing these different groups in different countries and these are the same groups that are recycling and they are recycled from almost every country that the so called Arab Spring has passed through you know such as in Yemen and in Libya.

This is not something new. The CIA was in it from the beginning. The United States was in it from the beginning and we will see more involvement for the United States in the coming week.

This is definitely coming especially after the 28th of this month where the Arab Summit in Doha Qatar is definitely going to give the so called Syrian rebels the seat of the Syrian government there in the Arab Summit which they will legitimize the different groups which will open the door for the United States to be openly supporting them with more weapons.
