UK PM hold phone talks on Syria with German, French leaders

British Prime Minister David Cameron has held phone talks with French and German leaders on a suspected false flag chemical attack in Syria, blaming government forces for the alleged incident.

An alleged chemical attack hit parts of the Syrian capital Damascus on Wednesday killing hundreds of people.

Foreign-backed terrorists in Syria claimed that the government forces were behind the assault in the Damascus suburbs of Ain Tarma, Zamalka and Jobar while medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres, which treated those affected in the attack, said it cannot even “scientifically confirm” the use of chemical weapons.

Cameron’s office said in a statement that he and French President Francois Hollande talked on phone on Sunday during which they “reiterated their strong condemnation of the attack”.

The statement added, “They agreed that a chemical weapons attack against the Syrian people on the scale that was emerging demanded a firm response from the international community. This crime must not be swept under the carpet”, suggesting government forces are to be blamed for the incident.

In a separate statement the No 10 Downing Street said Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel held telephone talks on how they should “respond to the chemical attack” and agreed “there was little doubt that it had been carried out by the regime, particularly given their refusal to grant the UN access to the site immediately after the attack”.

This comes as Syria did grant the United Nations investigators access to the location on Sunday for, according to the UN Secretary General’s office, “on-site fact-finding activities”.

British Foreign Minister William Hague, however, came up with a new accusation, saying Damascus could have shelled the area to destroy possible evidence of its poison gas use there, but that was also countered by the UN, which said the Syrian government will observe a ceasefire in the region for the UN investigators to complete their work.

The foreign-backed militants’ leaked crimes, including a footage of a terrorist leader biting into an organ of a dead Syrian soldier, put western governments under huge public pressure to halt plans to directly arm the militants.

The new chemical attack seems a renewed effort to legitimize arming Syria’s foreign-backed militants, especially in the context of a statement by Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday that said the media started airing news of the alleged attack even before it actually took place.
