French soldier killed in Afghan war

At least one more French soldier has lost his life in the US-led war in Afghanistan as foreign forces continue to experience some of their deadliest days in the country.

French officials said the soldier was killed in a militant attack in the northeastern province of Kapisa.

Another soldier had fallen in the same region a week ago.

This is the 63rd French soldier killed in Afghanistan since the 2001 US-led invasion of the country.

France has stationed 4,000 troops in Afghanistan.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has announced that “several hundred” troops will be pulled out of Afghanistan by the end of this year.

According to official figures, at least 2,547 US-led soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since the US-led invasion began in 2001.

The security situation has been steadily deteriorating in Afghanistan despite the presence of about 150,000 US-led foreign troops in the country.
