Shelling kills 5 civilians, including children, in Egypt’s Sinai
At least 5 civilians, including an eight-month-old baby, have been killed in shelling in Egypt’s restive Sinai Peninsula, Press TV reports.
Medical sources at al-Arish Hospital said on Tuesday that they had received the dead bodies of 5 civilians who lost their lives in a shelling of a neighborhood south of the city of Sheik Zuweid in northern Sinai.
According to the medics, among the bodies were those of a six- and a nine-year-old.
Two others, including a ten-year-old child, were also wounded in the shelling
Meanwhile, the Anti-Coup Alliance in Egypt, led by the banned Muslim Brotherhood movement, condemned on Tuesday what it called the “aggression” against political detainees and their relatives in the province of Sharqiya.
In a statement, the alliance said the “aggression” was an act of “reprisal” by security forces following the killing of a policeman in the province earlier in the day. The alliance condemned the shooting of the policeman by unknown assailants in the province, located some 80 kilometers northeast of Cairo, and said that it “had nothing to do” with the incident.
