Bahraini man arrested for ‘insulting’ troops helping Saudis in Yemen war

Bahrain has arrested a man for allegedly posting insults on social media to Bahraini soldiers deployed to Yemen to contribute to Saudi Arabia’s deadly aggression against the impoverished country.

According to the Bahraini prosecutor’s office, the man has been charged with “deliberately spreading rumors in a time of war … to harm the operations of Bahraini armed forces.”

It did not disclose the identity of the man, who faces up to 10 years in jail if convicted. There has also been no mention of the alleged insulting content of his online post.

The arrest comes as the Manama regime, a close ally of the Saudi kingdom, has been assisting Riyadh in its brutal military campaign against the neighboring Yemeni nation.

On March 26, Saudi Arabia spearheaded a deadly aggression against Yemen without a UN mandate – in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to Yemen’s fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.

The conflict has so far left about 4,500 people dead and more than 22,000 others wounded, the UN says. Local Yemeni sources, however, say the fatality figure is much higher.

Since 2011, the Al Saud regime has deployed troops to Bahrain to help the Persian Gulf state in its brutal crackdown on peaceful demonstrations against the Al Khalifa rule.
