“Today the Armed Forces are at the peak of their deterrent power for defending the country’s borders against enemy’s possible threats,” Deputy Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Mohammad Fahmideh Qassemzadeh said in Mashhad on Tuesday.

He said since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, enemies have been seeking to undermine the Islamic Republic and its armed forces by various means of war and sanctions, but to no avail. “The Iranian Armed Forces have remained unaffected by such plots and are today ready to repel any threat to the country.”

Last month, Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami announced that Iran is experiencing its strongest and best situation vis-a-vis its enemies.

“Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran is in its best and strongest conditions vis-a-vis enemies,” Salami said, addressing Iran’s ‘Sixth National Conference on Cyber Warfare’ in Tehran.

He described scientific and technological progress as a means to strengthen Iran’s power, saying, “Scientific leap and growth can disarm the enemy.”

Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes.

Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country’s military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.
