OIC condemns Mahabad terrorist attack

The Organization of the Islamic Conferences (OIC) has condemned the deadly terrorist attack carried out in the northwestern Iranian city of Mahabad.

In a statement, OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu expressed deep sorrows over the attack and extended his condolences to the Iranian government and the families of the victims, IRNA reported.

A bomb explosion in Mahabad in West Azarbaijan Province killed 12 people and injured 80 others on Wednesday. The attack took place as people were watching a military parade.

Ihsanoglu also highlighted the significance of tracking down those behind the terrorist act and bringing them to justice.

Tehran has described the attack as the “reaction of Israeli agents and the supporters of the Zionist regime [of Israel] to the country’s defensive prowess” and Iran’s “active diplomacy.”

One day after police officials said they had arrested two people in connection with the bombing, Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi announced on Thursday that the group behind the terrorist attack had been identified.
