Thirteen people were injured early Monday morning in a drive-by shooting near Washington’s Sursum Corda neighborhood, police said. One person remains in critical condition.

Officials say that the shooting erupted at about 2 a.m. Monday in the 1200 block of North Capitol Street.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier confirmed during a press briefing that 11 people were indeed wounded during the early morning drive by shooting. The number of victims was later revised to 13 total victims.

All of the victims were conscious and breathing when they were found, though, police said. The most serious injury was sustained by one person who was reportedly shot in the back. At least three of the victims were women.

Among the wounded is Deloltre Douglas’ brother, a 17-year-old shot in the hand, leaving a trace of blood in the building’s lobby. He and others ran back into their apartments looking for help

“He said they started shooting and the front door wouldn’t open,” Douglas says. “Ran in the house and said he got shot.” wjla.com
