Hundred of thousands to protest before the match between Brazil and Uruguay on Wednesday

Hundred of thousands people are expected to hold a protest before a match between Brazil and Uruguay on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Associated Press quoted unnamed officials as saying that they were expecting confrontations with the demonstrators before the semifinal match of Confederations Cup due to be held in Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais in the southeast of the country.
The demonstrators say they are angry at the vast amount of public money being spent on preparations for hosting next year’s World Cup. They argue that the government should instead spend public funds on health, education, and other public services.
Also on Tuesday, FIFA said in a statement that the match would be held as scheduled, but security has been increased because of the protests.
Minas Gerais officials said they would increase the number of law enforcement officials, dispatched to deal with the protests near Mineirao stadium, to 6,000.
