Latest developments on Gaza violence

Here are the latest developments regarding the Israeli offensive against Gaza which started on Wednesday:

Tunisian Foreign Minister Rafik Abdessalem who arrived in the Gaza Strip on Saturday to express solidarity with Palestinians, said Israel is not above international law.

Israeli Chief of the General Staff Benny Gantz has approved the expansion of the operation against the Gaza Strip, Israeli TV says.

As many as 11 Palestinians were killed on Saturday in Israeli attacks on the village of Jebaliya in northern Gaza, southern cities of Khan Yunis and Rafah and the central district of Mughazi. Five were killed in Rafah alone.

Cabinet headquarters of Hamas movement have come under attack.

Palestinian resistance fighters fired another missile towards Tel Aviv on Saturday.

The residence of Hamas official Abu Salah was destroyed in an Israeli air strike.

Israeli TV says more than dozens of missiles have hit Ashkelon — 50 km (31 miles) south of Tel Aviv — Eshkol regional council in northwestern Negev in Israel’s Southern District, Be’er Tuvia in central Israel and the southern city of Ofakim.

Several Palestinian missiles also hit Ashdod, Israel’s sixth largest city located 32 kilometres (20 miles) south of Tel Aviv.

Reports say the missiles that landed in Eshkol regional council have been fired from Sinai Desert in Egypt. Several Israeli soldiers have been wounded in the rocket fire in Eshkol, according to the Army.

Israel has called up about 75,000 army reservists amid reports of a possible ground incursion into the coastal enclave.

41 Palestinians have been killed since the Israeli airstrikes against the besieged territory began on Wednesday.

Israel’s Channel 2 says only 230 missiles, out of a total of 670, fired from Gaza have since Wednesday been intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome missile shield. Israel on Saturday deployed its fifth Iron Dome system in Tel Aviv.

Israel has conducted more than 830 attacks on the Gaza Strip since the offensive kicked off on Wednesday, Israel’s Channel 2 said.

Two people were injured on Saturday morning when Gaza missiles hit the southern city of Netivot in Israel.

Sirens are ringing out in settlements across Negev Desert region, including its largest city Be’er Sheva. Several missiles hit open areas in the city on Saturday morning.
