Iran’s former intelligence minister declares presidential bid

Former Iranian intelligence minister, Ali Fallahian, says he will run for president in the forthcoming presidential polls in June.
“People’s requests for me [to run for president] have reached the quorum and my candidacy in the…[June 2013] election is definite,” Fallahian said when asked about his intention to stand in the presidential election.

The former minister added that he would focus on job creation mainly for university graduates.

“I also have plans to create jobs for four million undergraduate students,” Fallahian added.

The former minister noted that participation in the election is a national obligation.

Political factions in Iran have yet to nominate their desired candidates for the presidency.

The Islamic Republic’s eleventh presidential election will be held on June 14. Presidential hopefuls will register from May 7 to May 11.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election.

Candidates for the presidency must be vetted for qualifications by the Guardian Council.
