Iran’s President-Elect Vows to Deepen Ties with Turkey
Iranian President-elect Hassan Rouhani underlined the need for the expansion of bilateral ties between Iran and Turkey during his presidency.
Rouhani made the call in a message sent to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday, in which he thanked Erdogan for congratulating him on his win in the June 14 election.
Also in his message, Rouhani noted that expansion of relations with the regional and neighboring countries will be a foreign policy priority of his administration.
Iran and Turkey have broadened their relations in various fields of economy, security, trade, education, energy and culture in recent years.
The two sides have exchanged several politico-economic delegations during the last few months.
Turkey imports more than 90 percent of its oil and gas.
Iran and Turkey are determined to boost their trade exchanges to $35 billion in the near future.
