Iran self sufficient in overhauling plane

Thanks to some of the world’s most adept engineers and technicians, Iran is keeping its iron birds up in the sky rather than decomissioning and allowing them to rot away in some remote salvage yard. Iran’s become one of only a handful of countries capable of performing the servicing and overhaul of its own fleet of airplanes. Yet the entire process of reaching self-sufficiency has been, and is still, being hampered by a scarctiy of parts.
The Aviation indusrty in Iran has been besieged by international sanctions since the Iranian Revolution more than three decades ago. Western governments and aviation companies who monopolize global aviation have denied Iranian airplane companies access to critical parts, service, and maintenance to keep airplanes safely up in the sky and the industry here, afloat. That’s when Iranian reslove and fortitude began pioneering the way to self-reliance. In 1995, the first attempts at partial overhauls began on Boeing 727’s and gradually moved into the complete overhaul phase of almost every type of plane in Iran, including the 737, 747, Airbus 300, and Airbus 300/600. Currently half of Iranian passenger planes are grounded due to a lack of parts. Iran currently has less than two dozen airline companies with around 630 planes in commission. When a recent international safety board, named IOSA, conducted a bi-yearly inspection of Iran’s airplanes, they gave the aviation industry here a full bill of approval and consequently Iran has been re-instated as a member of the global aviation commission regulated by YATA.
