Iran Says to Open New Chapter in Ties with West, Gulf States

Afkham made the remarks while talking to reporters at her weekly news conference commenting on the recent regional tour of Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Zarif started his Persian Gulf tour on Sunday, December 1, which took him to Kuwait, Qatar and Oman. He returned to Tehran Monday evening.

New form of cooperation should be established to ensure regional peace and stability, she said according to IRNA.

Referring to Zarif’s Kuwait visit, she said constructive talks were held between Tehran and Kuwait City.

On visits of foreign minister to Oman and Qatar, she noted that Zarif had fruitful meetings with his counterparts as well as top officials of those states.

Afkham also said that a new chapter has been opened in Iran’s ties with the West. But she added that the West has to take a major step to win the trust of the Iranian nation.
