The Israel lobby is seeking to keep its position in the US foreign policy by pressurizing and blackmailing the US Senate over the Palestinian issue, a political analyst tells Press TV.

In an interview with Press TV on Friday, Ibrahim Mousawi said the US policies on the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue, are highly influenced by the Israeli lobby, describing the Senate as “an occupied territory for the Israelis.”

“We all know the impact and the pressure that the Israeli lobby could exercise in that place and we know very well that there is a lot of blackmail going on there,” he said.

The Israelis are struggling to keep their position in the US foreign policy, trying “to exercise their blackmail, to exercise their pressure over the Senate” to cover up their crimes, he added.

The analyst said a recent letter by US Senators to President Barack Obama in which they described the formation of a Palestinian unity government as a “setback” to so-called Israeli-Palestinian peace talks revealed the US subservience to the Israeli regime.

“There is a mainstream line there in the [US] foreign policy that they follow Israel. There are always double standards, inconsistency. If they talk about the setbacks, why do they not do anything about all the expansions of the Israeli settlements which is going to Judaize most of the Palestinian territories?” Mousawi said.

In a Thursday letter to President Obama, 88 senators expressed concerns about the formation of a Palestinian unity government, urging him to reconsider aid to the Palestinian Authority (PA).

The 88 senators said the new unity government, which is the result of a reconciliation deal between Palestinian groups Fatah and Hamas, represents “a serious setback to efforts to achieve peace” with Israel.
