Lebanon Arrests Second Terrorist Involved in Terrorist Attack on Iranian Embassy in 2013

The Lebanese security forces on Wednesday arrested another terrorist involved in the bomb attack on the Iranian Embassy in Beirut in November 2013.

At least 23 people were killed and more than 140 injured in a double suicide bombing outside the Iranian embassy in the Lebanese capital Beirut in 2013.

“The second terrorist involved in the terrorist attack outside the Iranian embassy on November 19, 2013, is now in custody of the Lebanese forces,” the Beirut-based Arabic-language al-Jomhouriya newspaper cited a statement by the Lebanese security sources as saying.

The detained terrorist has confessed to his membership in a terrorist group in Lebanon’s Arsal region and also his involvement in 2013 terrorist attack in Beirut.

On September 22, 2015, the Lebanese security forces arrested the first assailant on the Iranian embassy for involvement in a double suicide bombing outside the embassy in the Lebanese capital.

The detained Takfiri terrorist had Syrian citizenship.

The Lebanese police identified the two suicide bombers who attacked the Iranian embassy in Beirut, including Iranian cultural attaché to Lebanon Ebrahim Ansari and five other embassy staff, media reports said on November 23, 2013.

Moin Abu Zahr, a Lebanese national who was born in 1992 and was a follower of Sunni Salafi Sheikh Ahmed Al-Assir was identified as responsible for carrying out the first attack on the Iranian embassy. The second suicide bomber was named as Omar Sobheh.

The attack targeted just 10 meters away from the embassy in Beirut’s Southern neighborhood of Jinah, inflicting much damage to the compound.

At the time, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian travelled to Beirut to pursue the embassy bombings.
