Iran condemns zionist plans to construct a synagogue inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound

Iran has vehemently denounced comments made by an Israeli minister about a proposal to build a synagogue within the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex located in the occupied East Jerusalem.

In a statement on Tuesday, Nasser Kana’ani, the spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, criticized Itamar Ben-Gvir of Israel, who had revealed the plan the previous day.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque, regarded as the third most sacred location in Islam, is also a powerful emblem of Palestinian identity.

“The cabinet of the Zionist regime is resolutely pressing forward with its nefarious plans concerning the Al-Aqsa Mosque, even going so far as to openly announce their harmful intent to construct a synagogue within the sacred site,” Kana’ani wrote in a post on X.

For the first time, an Israeli minister openly discussed plans to construct a synagogue within the complex, reinforcing the belief that the Muslim sacred site and Palestinian national symbol is endangered by the occupying regime.

“If I had my way, I’d place an Israeli flag on the site,” Ben-Gvir mentioned during an interview with Israel’s Army Radio. When the interviewer inquired if he would construct a synagogue there if given the choice, he responded affirmatively: “Yes.”

Ben-Gvir has made multiple visits to the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, even though Jews have been prohibited from praying there for a long time.

“Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran vehemently denounces these remarks and plans, warning against any violations of the sanctified boundaries of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and cautioning against new provocations by Zionists that breach the red lines of the Islamic Ummah.”

Numerous nations and global organizations also responded to the comments made by the Israeli minister.

The United Nations warned that his remarks could further heighten the already strained situation.

Jordan pledged to seek international legal actions to safeguard the sacred location, while Qatar called on the global community to act promptly.

“With the rise of pure human conscience and widespread condemnation of Zionist crimes, Muslims and advocates for freedom worldwide today stand together in their support for Palestine and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, calling for the prosecution of the responsible Zionists,” Kana’ani declared.
