70% of the casualties attacked by forces in Gaza comprise children and women

The United Nations Human Rights Office (OHCHR) reports that women and children account for almost 70% of the fatalities in the Gaza Strip amid Israel's military operations, described by some as a campaign of genocide in the blockaded Palestinian territory.

The office has released a comprehensive 32-page report detailing figures for the period spanning November 2023 to April 2024.

According to the report, approximately 80 percent of the fatalities occurred in residential structures, with children constituting 44 percent and women making up 26 percent of the victims.

A significant portion of the confirmed fatalities in Gaza consists of children aged between five and nine years old.

According to a recent report confirmed by United Nations monitors, the youngest individual to have died was a newborn boy, just one day old, while the oldest victim was a 97-year-old woman.

A United Nations statement has criticized Israel, stating that the ongoing attacks reflect “an apparent indifference to civilian casualties and the consequences of the chosen methods of warfare.”

A report stated that the International Court of Justice, through its recent series of provisional measure orders, emphasized Israel’s international responsibilities to prevent, protect against, and prosecute acts of genocide and related prohibited actions.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, has emphatically urged Israel to adhere promptly and completely to its international obligations.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, has described the situation as “a systematic violation of the core tenets of international humanitarian law.”

Turk emphasized the necessity for a thorough examination of serious international law violations, underscoring the importance of credible and impartial judicial bodies to address these allegations. He further highlighted the need for the diligent collection and preservation of all pertinent information and evidence in the interim.

On May 24, the International Court of Justice issued a directive to Israel to cease its aggressive actions in Rafah, implement the creation of humanitarian corridors, and permit international bodies to conduct investigations into allegations of genocide.

Israel has intensified its military operations in Gaza, resulting in increased casualties among Palestinians due to ongoing air and artillery strikes.

Recent airstrikes have hit Gaza City and the Nuseirat refugee camp, resulting in the deaths of six individuals.

Gaza officials have reported that approximately 24 individuals lost their lives on Friday as a result of Israeli military strikes.

The death toll of Palestinians in Gaza has risen to approximately 43,500 since early October of the previous year, with a significant portion of the casualties being women and children.

The United Nations has issued a warning regarding the worsening conditions in northern Gaza.

Reports indicate that Israel’s military is currently blocking the delivery of essential food and water supplies to a besieged region, where thousands of Palestinians are reportedly trapped and in urgent need of aid for their survival.
