Syrian opposition has unveiled a plan for an 18-month transitional phase leading up to national elections

The leader of Syria's principal overseas opposition group has called upon state employees to maintain their regular work schedules throughout the transition phase, offering assurances of their safety and protection.

Hadi al-Bahra, the leader of Syria’s principal opposition group abroad, proposed that Syria initiate an 18-month transitional phase to establish “a safe, neutral, and quiet environment” conducive to conducting free elections. His remarks were made during an interview with Reuters at the Doha Forum on Sunday.

In a significant shift in Middle Eastern geopolitics, Damascus fell under the control of armed factions, now acting as Syria’s transitional government forces, on Sunday. This development compelled President Bashar al-Assad to depart the nation after over 13 years of persistent conflict, marking a pivotal moment in the Syrian civil war.

The president of the Syrian National Coalition, Al-Bahra, has suggested that Syria embark on drafting a new constitution within a six-month period. This initiative includes a proposal to hold a referendum, which would establish the groundwork for the nation’s first elections under the newly constructed constitutional framework.

Al-Bahra explained that the constitution will determine whether the nation adopts a parliamentary, presidential, or mixed governmental system. Following this decision, elections will be held, allowing the populace to select their leader accordingly.

He underscored that the opposition had called on state employees to maintain their regular attendance at work throughout the transition period, while reassuring them of their safety and security.

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates declared the commencement of “a new chapter” in the nation’s history earlier on Sunday. This marks the introduction of a national charter aimed at promoting unity among Syrians and bridging existing divisions.

According to a statement by the Ministry, the initiative aims to build a unified nation grounded in the tenets of justice and equality, guaranteeing that all citizens receive their rights and uphold their responsibilities.

The statement underscored a vision highlighting a diverse and inclusive society, with citizenship as its cornerstone, steering away from unilateral viewpoints.

In an official statement, the Ministry reiterated its steadfast dedication to serving all Syrian citizens and addressing their needs. Emphasizing the responsibility it holds as the representative of the Syrian people, the Ministry stressed that “the homeland will always remain the highest priority.”

The Syrian opposition coalition announced it is actively working towards finalizing the transition of power in Syria to a “transitional governing body with full executive authority.”

In an official statement, it was announced that the Syrian revolution has transitioned from efforts to topple the Assad regime to a collaborative endeavor aimed at constructing a nation that honors the sacrifices made by its citizens.

Furthermore, the coalition has urged Kurdish forces to sever ties with any international organizations.

Following the initial reports, Reuters relayed information from Syrian opposition forces indicating that hostilities had commenced against Kurdish forces in the northern Syrian city of Manbij.

Furthermore, according to Reuters, the Syrian opposition coalition has affirmed its ongoing efforts to finalize the establishment of a transitional governing body endowed with comprehensive executive authority.

According to a report by Reuters, the coalition emphasized that the focus of the revolution has transitioned from efforts to topple the Assad regime to a collaborative phase aimed at reconstructing Syria.
