A top official from Bashar al-Assad’s government killed by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in Damascus
The Minister of Interior of the Syrian transitional government has announced that a high-ranking official linked to the Assad regime was killed by forces from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in Damascus.

Mohammad Abdul Rahman, the Interior Minister of the Syrian transitional government, reported that a high-ranking official linked to the Assad administration was fatally ambushed by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) operatives in the Al Qadam neighborhood of Damascus, Syria.
Arab sources have reported that Abdul Rahman stated that “a vehicle belonging to this high-ranking official detonated during the conflict, as it was laden with explosives.”
In recent developments, Abu Muhammad al-Jolani, the leader of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), issued a warning indicating that individuals affiliated with the previous government will face legal action and potential penalties.
He announced that individuals offering intelligence on senior army officers and security forces associated with the Assad government will receive a reward.
On November 27, terrorist factions initiated a significant assault on Syrian army positions across the Aleppo and Idlib provinces. By the evening of December 7, the militants had seized control of Aleppo, Hama, Daraa, and Homs. On December 8, they advanced into Damascus, which had been vacated by the retreating Syrian government troops.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has departed the nation for Russia. On December 10, Mohammed al-Bashir, leader of the self-declared salvation government, announced his appointment as the head of the Syrian government. This transitional leadership is set to continue until March 1, 2025.
