Lebanese President set to be chosen in upcoming election tomorrow, announces Mikati

According to reports from local Arab media, Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced on Wednesday that the Parliament is set to elect a new president on Thursday.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced that the presidential vacancy in Lebanon is expected to be filled by tomorrow, according to reports from Al Jazeera.

According to the report, the national parliament is set to assemble for the purpose of electing a new president, a position that has remained unoccupied for the past two years.

Joseph Aoun, the commander-in-chief of the Lebanese Armed Forces, and Suleiman Frangieh, leader of the Marada Movement, are prominent contenders for the presidential role in Lebanon. Recent comments from Najib Mikati indicate that a consensus may have been reached among Lebanese factions regarding this critical appointment.
