Social media abuzz with reactions to Gaza ceasefire, as users express both relief and joy
Social media platforms were abuzz with expressions of relief and joy following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel concerning the Gaza Strip.

A significant number of individuals are hailing what they perceive as a triumph for Palestinian resistance in light of a 15-month campaign characterized by accusations of severe human rights violations and systemic discrimination by an opposing regime. This period has resulted in extensive fatalities and devastation in Gaza, often described as the largest open-air prison globally.
A Palestinian woman took to social media platform X to declare, “Gaza has won, Palestine has won, resistance has won,” expressing a sense of triumph amid the ongoing conflict.
“Imperialism and Zionism have suffered setbacks, marking a defeat for the Democratic Party, as the future of the Zionist state faces ongoing challenges.”
She stated that all individuals involved in, or who contributed to, the perpetration of this genocide would face ongoing consequences.
In a social media statement, Yasmine El-Sabawi expressed being “overwhelmed with emotion” as she witnessed Palestinians in Gaza celebrate in long-awaited relief and joy following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement.
The dialogue surrounding the ceasefire is marked by significant criticism of imperialism and Zionism, with numerous voices condemning the support provided by Israel’s Western allies, particularly the United States, in backing what is described as an oppressive regime.
Efforts to eradicate resistance through acts of genocide and extensive destruction have been met with defiance by the people of Gaza, who have continued to stand resolute and persist in their struggle against adversities, persevering until the very end.
Nora Barrows, a reporter and associate editor at The Electronic Intifada, attributed the recent ceasefire to the steadfast bravery and resourcefulness of the Palestinian resistance, alongside humanitarian efforts by Lebanese and Yemeni forces.
The notion of inevitable Palestinian liberation is gaining traction, with calls suggesting that Zionism faces significant challenges in this pursuit.
Journalist Rania Khalek expressed satisfaction with the recent ceasefire agreement. However, she emphasized that true resolution will not be achieved until those who she describes as “genocidal imperialists” responsible for the extensive devastation in Gaza are held responsible and their structures dismantled.
According to data released by the Gaza Health Ministry on Wednesday, Israeli military actions have resulted in the deaths of over 46,700 individuals, including numerous children, in Gaza since October 2023.
Khalek claimed that Israeli forces have allegedly been responsible for the deaths of potentially hundreds of thousands of Palestinians through what she describes as various brutal methods.
Some emphasize that the Palestinian conflict stems from a protracted history of occupation and oppression, arguing that the fight for Palestinian liberation remains ongoing.
Afif Aqrabawi, a Palestinian-Canadian user of the social media platform X, expressed a sentiment of celebration tempered by sorrow, stating, “This is a moment of joy, yet grief lingers in the air.”
“Marking one year and one hundred days since the onset of conflict, the region has witnessed extensive violence, resulting in substantial loss of life, widespread devastation, and countless families affected.”
Palestinian sports journalist Leyla Hamed reports that individuals in Gaza are now tending to the graves of their loved ones, having been denied the chance to bid their final farewells.
Reports indicate that nearly every family in Gaza has suffered the tragic loss of a loved one.
