The year 1403 in the Iranian calendar (spanning from March 20, 2024, to March 20, 2025) was marked by a series of significant events that echoed the challenges faced in 1981. The Iranian nation experienced considerable hardship and turmoil during this period. At the start of the year, the country was plunged into mourning following the assassination of its esteemed President, Ebrahim Raisi. This tragic event was preceded by the loss of several advisors in Damascus, adding to the nation’s grief. Subsequent incidents in Tehran and Lebanon further compounded the sense of loss, claiming the lives of notable figures and impacting both the Iranian nation and the wider Islamic community. In addition to these somber events, the country grappled with economic challenges that intensified particularly in the latter part of the year, placing a strain on citizens’ livelihoods and sustaining a year-long ordeal of adversity.
In a remarkable display of resilience and unity, the Iranian people demonstrated their steadfast willpower following the tragic loss of their President. Despite the gravity of the event, citizens turned out in large numbers for the funeral procession, chanting slogans that reflected their unbroken spirit and high morale. This unprecedented show of solidarity highlighted the nation’s ability to withstand serious challenges without faltering. Moreover, Iran successfully conducted timely elections within the constitutionally mandated period, swiftly electing a new President and forming a government, seamlessly bridging the gap in the nation’s administration.
These developments hold considerable importance, showcasing the robust morale, capabilities, and spiritual resilience of the Iranian nation, which is a testament to their steadfast faith. During recent months, as numerous individuals in Lebanon, both allies in faith and kin, endured challenges, the Iranian populace extended support with generosity. This surge of aid, aimed at assisting their Lebanese and Palestinian counterparts, is a historical testament to the unwavering solidarity and is etched as a significant chapter in the country’s narrative.
The substantial gold contributions made by Iranian women, alongside the support from the broader community, underscore a pivotal moment of national significance. These actions exemplify the nation’s steadfast determination and collective spirit. The willingness to contribute and the underlying spiritual fortitude not only serve as pillars for Iran’s future but also play a crucial role in ensuring the country’s sustained prosperity. With continued divine favor, it is anticipated that these resources will be utilized effectively for the nation’s benefit.
Last year, the launch of the slogan “Surge in production through people’s participation” was deemed crucial for national advancement. However, a range of developments throughout 1403 AHS hindered the full realization of this goal. Despite considerable efforts from the government, civilians, private sector, investors, and entrepreneurs yielding notable achievements, the accomplishments did not meet initial aspirations. Consequently, economic concerns remain at the forefront this year. The renewed focus is directed towards economic issues, with the pivotal slogan for this year emphasizing investment in the economy. The call goes out to government officials and citizens alike to prioritize and address these economic challenges.
A critical issue within the national economy is the investment in production. When investments are injected into production sectors, significant growth is observed. Ideally, such investments should be predominantly undertaken by the public. However, the government is tasked with devising various strategies to facilitate this process. In scenarios where the populace either lacks the motivation or the financial means to invest, the government may assume an active role—not as a competitor, but as a surrogate. Should public investment stall, the government is poised to intervene with investments. Regardless of the actor, investment in production remains vital for strengthening the country’s economic framework and addressing the populace’s livelihood concerns. Enhancing people’s living standards requires strategic planning and is contingent upon these essential preliminary actions.
In a call for cohesive action, authorities and citizens alike are urged to commit earnestly to investment strategies aimed at bolstering production capabilities. The government is tasked with creating a conducive environment and dismantling barriers that hinder productive growth. Meanwhile, individuals are encouraged to channel their investments—regardless of scale—towards production initiatives. Such a redirection of capital is poised to mitigate engagement in potentially detrimental financial activities, such as the acquisition of gold or foreign currency. In this strategic framework, the Central Bank is envisioned to play a pivotal role, complemented by a suite of effective governmental measures. This concerted effort aligns with this year’s overarching theme, “Investments for Production,” aimed at enhancing economic stability and improving livelihoods. With collaborative planning between the government and the populace, there is optimism that these initiatives will effectively address the challenges at hand.
In recent developments over the past few days, there have been renewed hostilities involving the Israeli military and Gaza, described as a severe violation by some commentators. This has prompted calls for solidarity across the Islamic world, urging nations to transcend their differences in response to these events, which are seen as impacting the broader Islamic community. Further, there have been appeals to advocates of freedom globally—including those within the United States and across Europe—to condemn these actions. Reports indicate that the conflict has resulted in casualties among children, the destruction of homes, and the displacement of civilians, underlining the urgent need for international intervention to halt the unfolding humanitarian crisis.
Observers and analysts in global political affairs suggest that the United States plays a role in the unfolding tragedy, either by direct involvement or by providing implicit consent. Consequently, there is widespread agreement that the US shares responsibility for these actions. Similar concerns are echoed regarding the situation in Yemen, where the ongoing assaults on civilians are deemed criminal acts that urgently require cessation.
In a message marking the new year, there is a call for divine blessings promising goodness, prosperity, and triumph for the Islamic Ummah. There is optimism that the Iranian nation will embrace the year ahead with joy, unity, and success. The message expresses a hope that this spirit endures throughout the year, highlighting a wish for approval from the revered figures of Imam Mahdi, Imam Khomeini, and the nation’s martyrs.
May divine peace, mercy, and blessings be bestowed upon you.
