Iran, US conclude negotiations in Oman, agree to continue next week

Iran and the United States have reached an agreement to engage in another round of discussions regarding the Islamic Republic's nuclear program scheduled for next week.

Facilitated by Omani mediation efforts, the initial round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States has concluded in Muscat, the capital of Oman.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Steve Witkoff, the United States Special Envoy for Middle East Affairs, spearheaded the negotiations on Saturday.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has issued a statement indicating that discussions took place about Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, with a particular focus on lifting what they referred to as “illegal” sanctions imposed on the country.

The statement indicated that the discussions took place in a “constructive atmosphere” characterized by “mutual respect.”

Following over two and a half hours of indirect negotiations, the Iranian and American delegation leaders exchanged brief remarks upon departing the meeting venue, witnessed by the Omani Foreign Minister, according to the ministry.

During discussions in Muscat, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei conveyed to IRIB News that Iran’s primary aim in these negotiations is to safeguard its national interests decisively.

Baghaei emphasized their commitment to diplomacy, stating that these negotiations provide a genuine and earnest chance to address not only the nuclear matter but, more critically, the lifting of sanctions.
