Iran Announces Rescheduling of Expert-Level Talks with US to Saturday

Talks at the expert level between Iran and the United States, aimed at discussing the technical aspects of a prospective new version of the 2015 nuclear agreement, have been rescheduled to April 26. This announcement was made by the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry.

Esmaeil Baghaei announced on Tuesday that the meeting is scheduled to take place simultaneously with the upcoming round of indirect negotiations between the leaders of the two delegations.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Steve Witkoff, serving as the US special envoy for Middle East affairs, conducted two sessions of indirect negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program and the cessation of US sanctions. These discussions took place in Muscat, Oman, and Rome, Italy, on April 12 and 19.

Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi played a key role in facilitating the discussions.

A third series of indirect negotiations between Araghchi and Witkoff is scheduled to take place in Oman on April 26. The discussions aim to assess the outcomes of expert meetings and ascertain the proximity to reaching a potential agreement.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi engaged in discussions with Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Details of the talks, which focused on nuclear inspections and Iran’s compliance, remain undisclosed, but both parties emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue to address ongoing concerns.

Separately, Araghchi engaged in a phone discussion on Tuesday with Rafael Grossi, the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

During the conversation, Araghchi updated Grossi on the latest progress in discussions with the United States, highlighting Iran’s dedication to engaging with sincerity and earnestness.

In response, Grossi commended Iran for its responsible approach and affirmed the agency’s preparedness to provide assistance throughout this process, aligning with its functions and authority outlined by the IAEA statute.

In anticipation of Araghchi’s upcoming visit to China, a phone conversation was held in which discussions centered on indirect negotiations and the trajectory of bilateral collaboration with senior Chinese officials.
