West Bank Counter Offensive: Hamas Vows Continued Resistance Against ‘israel’

Hamas has lauded a retaliatory shooting incident in the occupied West Bank, asserting that Palestinians will persist in their resistance against what they describe as Israeli transgressions and attempts to annex additional territory.

The Hamas resistance faction has commended a retaliatory shooting incident in the occupied West Bank, asserting that Palestinians will persist in their struggle against what they describe as Israeli transgressions and attempts to expropriate additional territory.

On Wednesday, Hamas issued a statement following an incident where a vehicle was shot at near the town of Bruqin in the central West Bank’s Salfit Governorate.

Two Israeli settlers were injured in the attack, with one later succumbing to their injuries in the hospital.

Hamas declared that the assault is indicative of “the genuine sentiment of the West Bank and embodies the resistant nature of our community.” It further stated that Palestinians are steadfast in their rejection of “injustice and aggression,” and are determined to “counteract the crimes, aggression, and detrimental schemes of the occupiers, which are focused on territorial control and the displacement of our population to facilitate further occupation expansion.”

The statement urged Palestinians in the West Bank to escalate their operations against Israeli settler groups, advocating for unity in resistance and resilience against perceived Israeli overreach. In the occupied West Bank, a shooting incident in the west of Salfit left two Israeli settlers injured, with one reported to be in critical condition.

Abu Obeida, the spokesperson for the al-Qassam Brigades, the military faction of Hamas, announced that the “heroic” shooting operation was executed by “the bravest of our people” in the West Bank.

He further called upon Palestinians to mobilize in defense of the al-Aqsa Mosque compound, confront Israeli actions in the West Bank, and stand in solidarity with the residents of Gaza amidst what he described as a genocidal conflict.

Israeli forces have initiated a manhunt for the gunman and have cordoned off the area surrounding Bruqin.

On January 21, Israel commenced a heightened military operation in the occupied West Bank, asserting that its actions were directed at the resistance fighters belonging to the Jenin Battalion.

Since October 7, 2023, increased hostilities have been observed in the West Bank, amid a significant escalation of violence by Israeli forces in Gaza. In the intervening period, more than 960 Palestinians have reportedly lost their lives in the occupied territory due to actions by Israeli forces and settlers.
