Iran Set to Deliver Response to ‘Ambiguous’ US Nuclear Proposal Within Days: Araghchi

Araghchi commented on the nuclear discussions during a book signing event in Beirut. He highlighted that the negotiations have reached an impasse in recent weeks, primarily due to the United States’ insistence on preventing Iran from enriching uranium.
In a statement, it was announced that a measured and thoughtful response will be issued in the forthcoming days, guided by core principles and prioritizing the welfare of the Iranian populace.
The minister emphasized that uranium enrichment remains “a red line” for Iran, asserting that the nation does not require external approval to proceed with its uranium enrichment activities.
Iran has firmly declared that the continuation of uranium enrichment within its borders is a non-negotiable stance that appears to be acknowledged by the global community. The enrichment process has evolved into a significant national pride and symbol of honor for the Iranian populace. This achievement, realized through the dedication and expertise of Iranian scientists, stands as a purely domestic accomplishment, not something externally acquired or that can be casually disregarded.
The minister emphasized that the Iranian people have made numerous sacrifices to attain this national pride, having withstood over two decades of stringent US sanctions as a result of their scientists’ accomplishments.
“Several of our nuclear scientists were targeted and killed by foreign operatives, becoming martyrs for our nation. Their sacrifice has fueled the continued advancement of our nuclear enrichment program,” he stated, alluding to the assassination of numerous Iranian scientists in the early 2010s, which has been attributed to actions by the Israeli government.
The minister emphasized the importance of maintaining enrichment activities in Iran, citing the fact that over one million Iranians rely on medications manufactured by the Tehran research reactor.
However, he mentioned that Iran is prepared to implement measures aimed at building trust to ensure that its enrichment activities do not result in the creation of nuclear weapons.
Iran and the United States have engaged in five rounds of diplomatic discussions, facilitated by Omani mediation, commencing in April.
A prior agreement between the Islamic Republic and other nations established a 3.6-percent limit on enrichment levels.
In 2018, the United States withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and reinstated all previously lifted sanctions. In response, the Islamic Republic exhibited “strategic patience” for a year before initiating counteractions that elevated its enrichment activities.
Senior U.S. officials, including regional envoy Steve Witkoff and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have emphasized the necessity for “zero-level” enrichment by the Islamic Republic.
