Iran Envoy Condemns Israeli-US Actions as Violation of International Law at UN Human Rights Council
Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva has strongly criticized the recent actions by Israel and the United States, labeling them as egregious breaches of foundational international law principles and human rights.

In an address to the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council during the adoption of the Universal Periodic Review outcome for the Islamic Republic, Ali Bahreini highlighted the alleged severe hostilities carried out by Israel and the United States on Iranian territory between June 13 and 24.
Highlighting the impact of the assault, which led to the deaths of hundreds of Iranian civilians, including many women and children, Bahreini remarked, “The Israeli regime, with direct backing from the US, has unlawfully attacked civilian infrastructure, medical centers, residential areas, and even Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities.”
The Iranian ambassador criticized the silence and complicity of certain Western nations with the Israeli authorities, labeling it as “a clear norm violation.” The envoy further stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran rejects human rights recommendations from these countries, citing their perceived hypocrisy.
Citing Article 51 of the UN Charter, which affirms nations’ legitimate right to self-defense, Bahreini declared, “We will resist the aggression of the Zionist regime and will not rely on any foreign entity or nation to protect our citizens and sovereignty.”
He conveyed appreciation to the nations that, adhering to international principles, issued statements condemning the unlawful actions of Israel and the United States, and expressed their support for Iran.
The Iranian envoy criticized the Human Rights Council for its perceived ineffectiveness in addressing alleged crimes committed by the Israeli regime in Palestine and the broader region. The envoy also suggested the establishment of a commission to examine the involvement of nations that support the regime in committing war crimes.
Bahreini has urged the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to adopt a clear and explicit position in condemning acts of aggression against Iran. He called for accountability from the United States and the Israeli government, accusing them of threatening global peace and endangering civilian lives.
On June 13, Israel initiated a military offensive against Iran, targeting and eliminating high-ranking military officials and leading nuclear scientists. The operation included strategic strikes on nuclear and military installations as well as residential zones.
The Iranian Armed Forces launched missile strikes under the banner of Operation True Promise III, targeting multiple strategic locations within the Israeli-occupied territories.
Iran has launched a significant retaliatory strike, deploying over 500 ballistic missiles and approximately 1,100 drones targeting Israel. These assaults resulted in the deaths of 28 individuals and left roughly 5,000 others injured in the affected areas.
On June 22, the United States aligned with Israel in a military operation, targeting three Iranian nuclear facilities. This act has sparked controversy, raising concerns over potential breaches of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
The 12-day conflict came to a close as Israel, after sustaining significant losses, was compelled to agree to a unilateral ceasefire mediated by the United States last week.
