A total of 177 legislators voted in favor of Larijani’s chairmanship, while his rival Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel gained 89 votes out of the 266 ballots, IRNA reported on Tuesday.

The opening ceremony of the ninth Majlis was held last week, with a message from the Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei hailed the opening of the 290-member Majlis, describing it as the Islamic Republic’s “powerful message” to the world.
