West’s support emboldens Israel to continue aggression: Iran MP

The US and West’s support for Israel as well as Muslim world’s inaction has emboldened Tel Aviv to continue its constant aggression against the besieged Gaza Strip, an Iranian lawmaker says.

“The support by the US and Western countries for this illegitimate regime and [their] disregard for the rights of nations have created such an environment, and if they overlook it again, such measures by the Zionist regime [of Israel] will undoubtedly escalate in the region and in Gaza Strip,” said Hossein Sobhaninia, a member of Iran’s Majlis Presiding Board, in a Thursday interview.

The Iranian legislator slammed the new wave of Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip as part of Tel Aviv’s expansionist policy against the Palestinian people.

Sobhaninia also slammed the inaction and lack of cooperation among the Islamic and Arab countries and noted that political attitudes of some of these countries and their clandestine relations with Israel have emboldened Tel Aviv to continue its belligerent policies against the Palestinian nation in defiance of the rising tide of Islamic awakening across the Arab world.

At least 17 people have been killed in new wave of Israeli aggression against Gaza Strip since Wednesday.
The Israeli military frequently carries out airstrikes and other attacks on Gaza Strip, saying the actions are being conducted for defensive purposes. However, in violation of international law disproportionate force is always used and civilians are often killed or injured.

Gaza has been blockaded since 2007, a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.

The apartheid regime of Israel denies about 1.7 million people in Gaza their basic rights, such as freedom of movement, jobs that pay proper wages, and adequate healthcare and education.
