Fedotov said the production and trafficking of narcotics in Afghanistan endangers the stability of neighboring countries and put the health of millions of people at risk.
He added that Iran’s effective role in the fight against drug traffickers and the discovery of drugs has been highlighted in all UN reports and assessments.
The UN official said Iran has incurred enormous expenses and gained precious experiences in this regard.
Fedotov pointed out, “The close collaboration between Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan is achieving operational successes. More than eight tons of drugs have been seized in 17 operations planned and coordinated by the Joint Planning Cell, which is one of the key features of the Triangular Initiative”.
The Initiative’s Joint Planning Cell, based in Tehran, deals with information- and intelligence-sharing and the implementation of joint operations targeting regional drug trafficking networks.
