A commander of the Qassam Brigades has been martyred in Israeli drone strike in Tulkarm, West Bank

An Israeli airstrike in the occupied West Bank has resulted in the death of a senior commander from the Qassam Brigades, the military arm of Hamas based in Gaza.

Local Palestinian media outlets have reported the death of Tulkarm commander Ihab Abu Attiya, who was killed on Monday in an Israeli drone strike targeting his vehicle near the Nur Shams camp.

Hamas has officially announced that Abu Attiya has been “martyred due to actions by the occupying forces.”

The resistance movement has described the recent strike as a “desperate attempt” by opposing forces to dismantle their operations.

Hamas has claimed that the timing of the assassination, occurring alongside the escalation of military actions in the West Bank, underscores the belief that such measures will fail to deliver security and stability.

In a video captured two days prior, Abu Attiya was observed welcoming the Palestinians freed as part of a prisoner exchange agreement with the Israeli government.

An Israeli military operation is currently underway near the Tulkarem camp in the northern region of the occupied West Bank.

Israel has published a roster exceeding 700 Palestinian detainees scheduled for release as part of an agreement. Among these individuals, over 230 are serving life sentences and will be permanently exiled following their liberation.

Hamas has announced that Israel was compelled to “release our heroic prisoners,” following over 14 months of what they describe as “unprecedented and brutal aggression that targeted every area of Gaza with its severity.”

Following the implementation of the ceasefire in Gaza, the governing authorities have reportedly launched operations targeting the Jenin refugee camp.

On Sunday, the Health Ministry announced that 26-year-old Abdul Jawad Yasser al-Ghoul, who sustained injuries on January 21, has passed away. His death raises the toll of fatalities in Jenin to 16.

The Israeli military’s operations have extended beyond the city of Jenin.

Israel’s heightened military operations in the West Bank have elicited widespread condemnation. The United Nations has issued a warning, expressing concerns that Israel might replicate its Gaza offensive in the West Bank, raising fears of potential atrocities.
