According to Press TV, in February 2013, the Federal Reserve admitted that its computer system had been breached and sensitive data from many of its employees were stolen after Anonymous, an international network of activists and hacktivists, stole and published personal information on more than 4,000 US bank executives.
On Thursday, a court in the Southern District of New York identified the man behind the breach as British citizen Lauri Love, who was arrested four months ago in England.
Love has been accused by US and British authorities of hacking into several sensitive US government computer systems, including those belonging to the military. According to the indictment, he worked with other hackers of Anonymous from October 2012 to February 2013 to breach the Federal Reserve’s system. The group supported the Occupy Wall Street movement that emerged after a group of demonstrators gathered in New York’s financial district on September 17, 2011 to protest against the unjust distribution of wealth in the country and the excessive influence of big corporations on US policies.
