Afghan forces regain HQ from Taliban

Afghan forces have regained the control of a district headquarters in a far-off mountainous region of northern Afghanistan from Taliban militants.

According to AFP, on Monday, Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqi said that the security forces recaptured the control of the facility in Badakhshan province’s Karan wa Munjan district.
He further noted that a number of the Taliban militants were killed or injured in the fighting with the security forces.
On Sunday, Sediqi said that the Taliban took over the building after police abandoned the facility to avoid civilian casualties.
Sediqi said “This year the enemy is trying to show their existence in northern parts of the country and that is one of the reasons that they are attacking Badakhshan province.”
Last week, the Taliban captured the district of Wurduj in Badakhshan province. The security forces raided the district, leaving 18 policemen and 47 militants dead.
